Fresh hibiscus flowers are harvested by hand in the tropical farms of West Africa and sun-dried to naturally preserve their nutrients, potency & tart flavor. Also commonly called roselle in the Caribbean, Flor de Jamaica in Mexico; dried hibiscus flower powder can be used in a variety of foods, drinks and beauty hair masks.

Hibiscus Flower Drink

Ingredients(Makes about 4 servings):

  • 1 - 2 tablespoons of Iya Foods Dried Hibiscus Powder or ¼ cup Dried Hibiscus Flowers
  • 4-5 cups water
  • ½ to 1 Tbsp Iya Foods Ground Ginger
  • Sugar or desired sweetener

Instructions:

  1. Bring water to boil (can use a kettle or pot), then add dried hibiscus powder or flower and ginger
  2. Stir, strain if desired then add sugar or sweetener
  3. Serve hot or cold

Hibiscus Syrup

Ingredients (10 Servings):

  • 5 cups water
  • 2oz Iya Foods Hibiscus Flower Powder
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • (Optional)1 Tbsp Iya Foods Ground Ginger
  • 1 zest and juice of 1 lemon

Instructions:

  1. Bring 5 cups water and sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir mixture until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat; stir in Iya Foods Hibiscus Flower Powder 1. If ginger flavor is desired – add ground ginger 2. If lemon flavor is desired, stir in lemon zest. Cover, and let steep for 1 hour.
  3. Fill a large bowl with ice and water; set aside. Strain syrup mixture and discard residue. Chill in the ice bath. When cool, stir in lemon juice. Can refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Hibiscus Hair Mask

Directions for Hibiscus Hair Mask

  1. Infuse 1 tablespoon of Hibiscus Powder in a cup of warm water
  2. Strain it *You can also soak dried hibiscus leaves in warm water.
  3. Add half a cup of coconut milk, Add 1 cup of greek yogurt, Add 1 tablespoon of honey, Add 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera Gel, Add 1 tablespoon of Hibiscus Oil, Mix well

  • On washed hair, apply the hibiscus hair mask. Best if done in shower because it can be quite messy. Cover hair with plastic cap and wait 30 minutes. No need to sit under a hooded dryer. Wash off thoroughly. Moisturize hair and style as needed, Repeat once or twice a week
