Here are some tips on how to use your salt:
Boiling Water
The salt added to the water makes it boil at a higher temperature, reducing the cooking time. (It does not make the water boil faster).
Preventing Darkening
Apples, pears, and potatoes placed in ice cold water and pinches of salt, will maintain their color when peeled.
Improving Potatoes
When potatoes are sprinkled with salt after sifting, they have a good, soft texture. Then putting them back into the pot and mashing them quickly removes excess moisture.
Fixing up Very Salty Soups
If the soup is too salty for your taste, cut one or two raw potatoes and put them in the soup. The potatoes will absorb the salt.
